Is it Time to Re-Imagine HR?

A Consultancy.uk article by Aaron Alburey, co-founder of LACE Partners, suggests that it’s time to "super charge" HR. In Alburey’s words: "Many HR functions could become impotent in their ability to influence the outcomes of their businesses if they don’t rethink traditional ways of working and thinking."

HR is no longer about policy and resource management, she says.

Alburey suggests that the new HR leader should head employee experience and embrace a "people-centric" model, versus looking at employees and functions in isolation. The new HR model must also embrace AI and other technologies to not only capture information, but also identify insights for behavioral changes and enhanced productivity.

Digital people-support tools are emerging to greatly enhance people functions – even more senior functions such as coaching.

"In a digital and agile organization, the agenda of the people function needs to focus around experience, knowledge, behavioral change and productivity," Alburey concludes.

A Question: Will Artificial Intelligence Replace HR Jobs?

No, says Steve Boese, co-chair of the HR Technology Conference that will be held September 11-14 in Las Vegas. Instead, AI will supplement what HR managers do.

Four of the conference’s five sessions that are generating the most interest are sessions about AI. So far, only a small percentage of companies have deployed AI in their HR departments, Boese says in a talentculture article written by Meghan M. Biro.

However, the most interesting AI developments for HR include using machine learning to match candidates to the right job openings, make unbiased employee assignments, and determine training and development needs.

"The pace of innovation has been really, really high in the last five years and companies have had more money to spend," Boese says.
